At Astropark, we run primary school tours from our two Dublin locations in Coolock and Tallaght throughout May and June. This page sets out exactly what the day involves, what it costs, and what to expect from start to finish.
Why Active School Trips Matter for Primary School Children
There’s a strong case for choosing an active school tour, beyond the fact that kids enjoy it.
According to the Children’s Sport Participation and Physical Activity Survey 2022, only 23% of primary school students in Ireland are meeting recommended daily physical activity guidelines. Ireland’s HSE physical activity guidelines recommend at least one hour of activity per day for school-age children.
A four-hour active school trip contributes meaningfully to that, and it gives teachers and principals a straightforward rationale when communicating the choice to parents or boards of management.
What a Primary School Day Out at Astropark Looks Like
The tour runs to a clear structure, which makes planning around buses, lunch, and return times straightforward.
Standard timetable:
- 9:15am — Students arrive and are welcomed
- 9:30am–12:00pm — Fully supervised activities run by Astropark staff (2.5 hours)
- 12:00pm–12:30pm — Lunch break (students bring their own packed lunch)
- 12:30pm–1:30pm — Free play on the pitches, with teacher supervision
- 1:30pm — Tour ends, buses depart
The total time on site is four hours. Our team manages and runs all the supervised activity sessions, so teachers are accompanying their class throughout rather than leading activities themselves.
During the free play period at the end, students use the pitches independently while teachers supervise. This is unstructured time by design — it builds confidence and social skills, and gives students a natural wind-down after the morning sessions.

School Tour Activities for Primary Classes: What’s Included
The supervised morning block includes seven distinct activities. All are age-appropriate and led by Astropark staff throughout.
Supervised activities included in the tour:
- Bubble Football (ages 7+) — football played inside inflatable zorb suits; consistently the highlight for most groups
- Nerf AstroWars (ages 6+) — organised team battle games with structured rules and staff-managed teams
- Inflatable Obstacle Course — physical challenge requiring coordination and teamwork
- Inflatable Foosball — team-based, good for mixed ability groups
- Crazy Sports Day — relay races and team games
- Football Drills — structured skills session on the pitches
- Inflatable Bouncy Castle — open to all ages
Every activity involves an element of teamwork or cooperative play. Students can’t complete them alone, which makes the morning a good fit for class groups regardless of ability.
Pricing and Logistics for Dublin School Groups
Cost: €24 per child for the full four-hour programme.
Lunch is not included — students bring their own packed lunch, which is taken during the 30-minute break at 12pm.
Both locations are accessible by coach and well-positioned for Dublin schools:
- Coolock: close to the M50 and M1 corridors
- Tallaght: accessible from south Dublin, Kildare, and surrounding areas
Tours run May through June. Availability fills up during the final weeks of term, so early booking is recommended.
School Tour FAQs: Questions We Hear Most from Teachers
- Can we pay by invoice or bank transfer? Yes. We understand that most schools pay through the school account rather than by card. Contact our team before your visit to arrange invoicing or bank transfer for your group booking.
- Can we start later than 9:30am? The standard start is 9:30am, but we know some schools are travelling from further afield. If you need a 10am start or a slightly adjusted timetable, contact us to discuss what’s possible for your date.
- Is Bubble Football suitable for younger classes? Bubble Football is recommended from age 7. For classes with younger children, Nerf AstroWars and the inflatable activities are available from age 6, and our team will structure the morning accordingly.
- Can two class groups come on the same day? Yes. We regularly host multiple classes from the same school on the same day. Get in touch to confirm what’s possible for your group size and preferred dates.
- How long is the tour exactly? The full school tour is four hours on site: 2.5 hours of supervised activities (9:30am–12pm), 30 minutes for lunch, and one hour of free play (12:30pm–1:30pm).
